Description: Simulate differences in the vibration of atoms in a molecule by arranging two equivalent springs and a third spring that is more taut (or looser) suspended from a metal bar and having available two similar weights and a third heavier weight. Begin by hanging the two equal weights from the two similar springs and gently pulling them down then releasing to produce a synchronous bouncing of the weights. From there various combinations of weights and spring types can be compared to simulate IR vibrations of different bond strenghts and different mass atoms in a molecule.
