Limiting Reactant DebriefingWhile aspirin is a powerful drug to reduce pain, inflammation, and fever, many people can not take it. It is a stomach irritant for some people and still others are allergic to it. Fortunately, there are alternatives. One popular alternative is acetaminophen, sold under the popular name brand Tylenol®. Acetaminophen is less irritating to the stomach and is as effective for most people at reducing pain and fever (unfortunately, it does not reduce inflammation). Acetaminophen can be made by reacting p-aminophenol, C6H7NO, with acetic anhydride, C4H6O3:
