Tatum Lyles Flick is a communications specialist, public relations practitioner and science writer with extensive experience in photography, website usability, and graphic design. She has created numerous print publications, including two regional magazines, medical newspaper sections, regional travel guides and a variety of websites.
As a public relations professional, she currently serves as director of communications for the UW-Madison Department of Chemistry. She has also worked in higher education as a communication, events and marketing coordinator at Louisiana State University and for a New York Stock Exchange-traded utility corporation.
She has extensive experience in a wide array of crisis communication, including during: numerous company reorganizations, category 1-5 hurricanes, service outages, floods, hazardous material management, fatalities, legal battles, and evacuations. She also excels in external, student and employee communication.
Tatum served as secretary, vice president and president of the central Louisiana chapter of the American Advertising Federation and chair of the central Louisiana ADDY Awards two years in a row. She was president of the Public Relations Association of Louisiana, Central Louisiana Chapter and, with the help of a very dedicated team, initiated the first ever Cypress Awards.
She has planned numerous functions including the Louisiana Family Expo, awards programs, fundraising events and news conferences.
She worked for several years in two different research labs at Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge, LA, where she gained experience in medical entomology and disease ecology. With a bachelor’s degree in journalism, experience working for LSU Libraries and additional study in biology, she excels at science writing and in covering emerging research topics.
