Research Description
As the director of the undergraduate labs in physical chemistry, my primary role in the department is to provide the best laboratory experience for our undergraduate students. The physical chemistry laboratory classes have a unique placement in the careers of undergraduate students. Specifically, they are generally the last laboratory classes students take and are taken at the time undergraduate students are making the transition to becoming a graduate student. Therefore, the classes are designed with particular emphasis on these factors. Students are expected play a primary role in the development of their experiments, and they are expected to combine and apply knowledge from all of their previous courses. This approach leads to a unique experience for our students and helps them to develop skills that will be useful to them in graduate school.
