The body-centered cubic cell is identical to the primitive cubic cell with an additional lattice point placed at the center of the cell. The centered lattice point is not shared with surrounding cells, so the body-centering results in 2 unique lattice points per cell. The alkali metals and various transition metals crystalize into this lattice type.
