A tighter connection between two polyhedra arises when they share all of the atoms that go around one of their faces. This situation is called face sharing. This can create uncomfortable situations for the central atoms of small polyhedra. For example, most cases it is not feasible for two filled tetrahedra to share faces, due to the repulsion that would arise between their central atoms.
